In this post, we’ll unpack all you need to know about the Results Model, defining exactly what is, a breakdown of the four stages of the cycle, how we can leverage it for success and more.
What Is The Results Model?
The Results Model is a universal model for what determines our results in any area of our lives and is a tool that we can use to optimise the success of our outcomes.
The 4 Stages Of The Results Model
There are four distinct stages to the Results Model; Thoughts, Feelings, Actions and Results.
Thoughts determine our feelings. Feelings determine out actions. Actions determine our results.
More simply; Thoughts = Feelings = Actions = Results.
Below we’ll look at each stage in detail.
1) Thoughts
Thoughts are how we represent our experiences.
In every moment of our waking lives, we are deciding, consciously or unconsciously, the meaning we give to our experiences and what to focus on.
Thoughts create chemicals in the brain that feed the body with emotion. Therefore, our thoughts determine our feelings.
2) Feelings
Feelings are the physical sensations that we feel in our body.
Positive thoughts create chemicals in the brain that feed the body with positive emotions. Negative thoughts create chemicals in the brain that feed the body with negative emotions.
Emotions (which stem from Latin word ’emovere’ which means ‘to move out’) are expressed via the body and shape everything we do. Therefore, our feelings determine our actions.
3) Actions
Actions refer to what we do or don’t do and how we respond or react.
The type of actions that we take are determined by the emotions that we are feeling in any given moment. The type of actions we will take when in a positive state will be totally different to the actions we’d take when in a negative state.
Actions produce outcomes. Therefore, our actions determine our results.
4) Results
Results are the consequences of our actions.
Fundamentally however, our results are simply a direct reflection of the original thoughts we chose to focus on. Our results then reinforce our original thoughts and thus it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
When we think differently, we feel differently, act differently and ultimately achieve different results.
“We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” — Albert Einstein
The Secret For Success Lies Within, Not Without
Most people try to change their results without addressing what caused them in the first place, their thoughts. Without changing our thinking, it is inevitable that we will produce the same results.
In order to change our thinking, we need to expand our awareness. To expand our awareness, we need to gain knowledge. To gain knowledge, we need to study. The greater our awareness, the greater pool of information we have to make decisions.
“A man is great not because he hasn’t failed; a man is great because failure hasn’t stopped him.” — Confucius
How To Leverage The Results Model
While thoughts and feelings represent our internal world, actions and results represent our external world. Our external world is just a reflection of our internal world.
Therefore, the key to leveraging The Results Model is by aligning our thoughts, feelings and actions with our goals and the life we desire.
Big thinking leads to big results.
Summary (TL;DR)
The Results Model provides us with a universal formula for how and why we create our destinies. It explains why our thoughts determine our feelings, our feelings determine our actions and our actions determine our results.
The key to leveraging The Results Model is by aligning our thoughts, feelings and actions with our goals and the life we desire.
