Rapid Planning Method Explained Simply

Rapid Planning Method (RPM) Explained – All You Need To Know

In this post, we’ll unpack all you need to know about the Rapid Planning Method, defining exactly what it is, why it works, how to use it and more.

What Is The Rapid Planning Method?

Developed by Tony Robbins, the Rapid Planning Method (RPM) is a system for maximising the results in your life and your sense of fulfilment.

Why The Rapid Planning Method Works

The Rapid Planning Method works because it is a way of thinking and conditioning the brain to focus on the results that you want.

The Rapid Planning Method doesn’t just apply to long-term goals, but rather it becomes a way of approaching your daily life.

By using the RPM, we become the Masters of our Destiny instead of Slaves to our Fate.

How To Use The Rapid Planning Method

The secret to being productive lies not in doing more things, but doing the right things ― the things that really matter. Thus, those who succeed in life and achieve fulfilment consistently focus on three things:

  1. They know what they want ― the Result they are after.
  2. They know why they want it ― the compelling Purpose that drives them to follow through.
  3. They know how to get it ― they have a Massive Action Plan (MAP) for how to get them there.

The Rapid Planning Method therefore involves three components: Result, Purpose and Massive Action Plan.

It is your connection to the outcomes of what you want (Result) and the reasons why you want them (Purpose) that allows you to focus on doing the things that will determine how you there the fastest (Massive Action Plan).

Results ― What Do I Really Want?

The first step is to determine what you want.

Your brain works like a servomechanism ― it is designed to align you with the behaviours necessary to get what you want.

The clearer and more specific you are about the result want, the faster your brain will get you there. For example, “I want to lose weight” is entirely different to “I want to lose 10 pounds.”

Purpose ― Why Do I Want It?

The second step is to determine why you want what you want.

Humans are purpose driven. Purpose is the fuel that drives you to get what you want. The more reasons you have for what you want, the more fuel you will have to get it. Your reasons need to include why it is a “must” and not just a “should.”

It is important to use language that is anchored by emotion. The reason we want something is because of how it makes us feel as a result of achieving it. For example, the reason you may want a new job is because of the excitement and security you will feel once you have obtained it.

Massive Action Plan ― How Am I Going To Get It?

The third step is to determine how you’re going to get what you want.

Your Massive Action Plan is your blueprint for how to get what you want. The 80/20 Principle tells us that 20% of our actions are responsible for 80% of our results. Therefore, when you know where to focus your time and energy, you increase your effectiveness and productivity and ultimately your chances of success.

There are many ways you can achieve a result. What is important is that you stay focused and committed to what you want, have strong enough reasons for why you want it, but stay flexible in your approach on how you’re going to get it.

Summary (TL;DR)

The Rapid Planning Method is a time management system that increase our effectiveness and productivity by aligning our daily actions with our goals and the life we desire.

RPM is a Results-Focused, Purpose-Driven and Massive Action Plan. Result refers to what you want. Purpose refers to the reasons for why you want it. Massive Action Plan refers to the actions you need to take for how to get what you want.

By using the Rapid Planning Method, we can maximise the results in our lives. In doing so, we become the Masters of our Destiny instead of Slaves to our Fate.
